Welcome to ALPHA. You Are Not Alone Anymore.

Lead poisoning is the number one preventable childhood disease in the United States.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "Approximately 310,000 children aged 1--5 years remained at risk for exposure to harmful lead levels".

Many falsely believe that lead poisoning was eradicated after lead was removed from paint (1978), gasoline and soldered canned goods. Unfortunately, our children live in a toxic soup of chemicals, heavy metals and other poisonous substances every day.  Lead is a neurotoxin that gets deposited in bones, soft tissue, and organs which, when ingested or inhaled, causes damage to the nervous system.  Among other things, elevated lead levels can also cause dietary deficiencies of iron, calcium, zinc, and ascorbate, behavioral problems, lowered IQ, and hearing loss.  To learn more about the damaging effects of lead click here.

ALPHA is comprised of parents and concerned individuals from all over the country dedicated to the prevention of childhood lead poisoning.  ALPHA's goal is to unite people to network, share ideas and experiences, and move forward in promoting lead awareness within our communities.

ALPHA is a non-profit organization who, in 2007, ALPHA became Incorporated in the state of New Jersey and is preparing to receive it's 501(c)(3) status in early 2008.

We pledge to join the CDC in its goal to eradicate lead poisoning by the year 2010.  To learn more about ALPHA and our mission click on About Us.  To learn more about Lead Poisoning go to our Lead Fact Sheet.  Thank you for visiting our site.
